Corporate Telephone Preference Service

What is the Corporate Telephone Preference Service (CTPS)?

CTPS is a means for corporate organisations to opt out of unsolicited telemarketing calls. The term 'corporate' includes:

  • Limited Company or Plc
  • limited liability partnership in England, Wales and Northern Ireland
  • Partnerships in Scotland only
  • Government Departments and Agencies
  • Hospitals
  • Other government body

What does this mean for your business?

If you use telemarketing to promote your business you should check if CTPS use applies.

CTPS is a legal requirement where:

  • You are making an unsolicited telemarketing call to a corporate organisation (as defined above)
  • An unsolicited marketing call is a marketing call where you do not have permission to call this company for marketing purposes

If CTPS use applies, then you must screen your call list at least 90 days before calling.

Non compliance

If you make an unsolicited direct marketing call to a number registered on CTPS, the Information Commissioners Office can fine you up to £5,000.
