Banks given security reminder

Banks – and other organisations that are responsible for large quantities of consumer data – have been given a reminder of the threat they face from hackers.

A report by the BBC has found that cyber criminals have realised a way around the latest security tool employed by financial organisations.

Hackers are said to have discovered a way to beat the checks imposed by the security keypads handed out by many banks in recent times.

They are able to trick account holders into believing they need training in a new and upgraded system, before moving money out of their savings. All of this is hidden from the customer.

Barclays has released its PINSentry and HSBC the SecureKey, which have made life tougher for hackers, but they have simply raised their game in response, the news source noted. This could mean it is time for organisations to think about additional security systems.

Clive Taylor, founding director of Sesai Consulting Limited, recently said another security threat to firms can come when staff are allowed to use personal mobile devices.
