Security measures are likely to be on the minds of all good data management bosses on a daily basis – and this should be especially true when it comes to mobile phones.
Tony Neate, managing director of Get Safe Online and a member of the e-Crime Wales Steering Group, said steps should be taken to ensure the security of smartphones and other hi-tech devices.
He suggested people should "definitely" have a password attached to the models they are using at any particular time.
"You think they're invulnerable because they're so close to you ... They are just as vulnerable as any other piece of electronic or computerised equipment," Mr Neate commented.
The expert added that the personal nature of data contained on mobiles can make it extremely concerning to lose them or have them taken.
Independent IT security consultant Kevin Wharram recently said that all of the threats previously posed to those working with computers will remain in place during 2012.
