The National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA) is hoping to raise awareness about the dangers of being careless with placing information such as name and address data and other personal details on the internet.

Data Privacy Day will be held on January 28th and it aims to promote the importance of data privacy and management, by encouraging people to exercise closer control over their details in the future.

The global problems associated with misuse of consumer data will be highlighted as many countries around the world plan to host a range of training initiatives to mark the event.

Executive director of the NCSA Michael Kaiser said lives are now reliant on the internet and the goal behind Data Privacy Day is to make people be safe all year round.

This comes after Martyn Ruks, the technical director at MWR InfoSecurity, said there was a need for better IT security education in the curriculum.
